Meet Our Staff
Lead Pastor
Austin Kyle Davis
Austin began as Lead Pastor at Smoky View in August of 2020, and currently serves as a Chaplain for the 134th Air Refueling Wing. Prior to this, he served as the Interim Pastor beginning in March of 2020, where he began setting a Vision for the church and developing the foundation to support that Vision. While serving as Interim he served on staff as the Local Outreach Pastor at 2nd Baptist Church of Clinton. Pastor Austin spent 7 years in Student Ministry at 2nd Baptist from 2012 to 2019 serving in different capacities and as Student Pastor.
Pastor Austin attended Liberty University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biblical and Theological Studies and a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Leadership from Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for 6 years as a Cyber Analyst.
Pastor Austin & Elizabeth have been married since 2011 and have two girls Ellanor and Joanna(Jojo). They see ministry as a family privilege and do it together.
Secretary
Mitzi Garner
Mitzi has been in church administrative assistant roles since 2006. She has been the church secretary for Smoky View for the past 12 years. She lives in Louisville, TN with her husband of 36 years, Tom. They have 2 adult children, Megan is married to Ryan and they have two children, Rhett and Clara Ray, and Matthew is married to Jessica and they have one son Judah and one on the way. Mitzi enjoys serving in many capacities here at Smoky View. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and watching Hallmark movies or reading Christian Romance Novels.
Associate Pastor
Tom Garner
Tom has been in church ministry for 23 years. His passion is church facilities and helping to cut costs where needed. He has been the Bi-Vocational Associate Pastor of Administration at Smoky View since his ordination in 2015. He also works as the Maintenance Supervisor for all Pellissippi State Campus’. Tom has been married to Mitzi for 36 years. They enjoy being grandparents to 3 grandchild, Rhett, who is 4, Clara Ray who is almost 2, and Jude who is 3, and one on the way. They have a daughter, Megan, and a son, Matthew. Megan is married to Ryan Prettyman, and they are the proud parents of Rhett, and Clara Ray they live in Delaware. Matthew is married to Jessica and they are the parent of Jude and soon to be baby. Another passion of Tom’s is pizza. He thinks he could eat it 3 times a day.
Worship Leader
Cary "Stew" Steward
Cary “Stew” Steward is originally from a small town Marshville, North Carolina outside of Charlotte. He went to Chowan University in Murfreesboro NC in 2006 majoring in music, business and technology. He then went to Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN in 2009 receiving his BA in Music with an emphasis in Voice.
Stew began leading worship in 2006. He has been involved with many worship teams all over the world helping them understand worship while helping to develop and define their worship culture. Stew has been married for 13 years to Laura. They have five children. They also share their home with one girl Guinea pig named Fred, it’s a long story, and a smart vacuum named Jimmy.
Stew enjoys watching his favorite television show, The Office, and has watched it practically every day since 2007.
Stew has led us not only leading in familiar songs but also introducing the church to original worship songs he has written.
We are blessed to have Stew and his family with us at Smoky View.
Next Generation Coordinator
Melanee Ivarson
Melanee has been a member at Smoky View since moving to East TN from Nashville in 2022. She has served in our children/student ministry for the past 2 years and is passionate about serving the parents and children at our church and in our community. She lives in Maryville with her husband Jason, and their new baby boy Griffin. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends in her growth group and finding new projects and crafts to work on.
